Q :About my.liu.edu
A :My.liu.edu is a portal that will allow you to access your personal student information. With my.liu.edu you can select content that most interests you.


Q :How do I log in to the portal?
A :Log into the My LIU portal using your username (firstname.lastname) and password which is case sensitive. Your username and password allows you to access LIU email, on-site computer labs, and my.liu.edu.


Q :What are pagelets?
A :A pagelet is a box on the portal that contains specific information. There are a variety of pagelets that you can view on the my.liu.edu portal.


Q :Why does it take so long to login to the portal?
A :Login times vary and are dependent upon the number of pagelets you have in the Student Home section of the portal.


Q :Why does my screen freeze during login? Should I login again or hit refresh on my browser?
A :Your screen freezes during login because PeopleSoft is loading your pagelets. Login times vary and are dependent upon the number of pagelets you have in the Student Home section of the portal. Do not login again or hit refresh. Doing so will only increase the amount of time it takes to login.


Q :How long should it take to login to the portal?
A :When accessing the portal from off-campus, logging in will take approximately 60 seconds. Login times are much faster from on-campus.


Q :How long should it take to bring up a page in the portal?
A :Under 30 seconds depending on how much traffic is on the portal.


Q :Email us
A :To email us, click on the Contact icon (the envelope at the top right of the screen), complete the required fields and click Submit.


Q :After I log into my webmail account how do I see my new messages?
A :When you log into your webmail account, click My LIU Webmail Mail > Inbox Link to see your new messages.


Q :How do I compose a message?
A :To compose a message, click the New Message button at the top of the page or by collapsing the “+” next to the Mail link.


Q :How much mail and file storage do I have in My LIU Email?
A :You have 4GB (gigabytes) of mail message storage and 20MB (megabytes) of file storage space in your My LIU Email.


Q :How do I upload files to my file storage space?
A :To upload files to your file storage space, click File Manager. Browse and open. Then click the Upload Files button.


Q :I had used the former Student Information System, can I access my old email messages?
A :Yes. Students who had used the former Student Information System, you can access your old email messages and bring them into your new My LIU Email account.


Q :I had used the former Student Information System, how can I access my old email messages and bring them into my new My LIU Email account?
A :You will need to archive your old SIS messages to make them accessible in My LIU Email. See detailed instructions embedded in the link below.

Q :Why is My LIU Email account referred to as my “address of record?”
A :My LIU Email account is your link to all news and announcements that pertain to you and your LIU communications. It is also the main way campus faculty and staff will communicate with you. We refer to this as your “address of record.”


Q :How do I forward My LIU Email to another email address?
A :Begin by clicking on the options key, Select Filters. Click Edit your Filter Rules, Select Forward. The Forward box appears. Click the check box if you want to always have a copy of the forwarded messages in this Inbox, and then type in your external email address in the text field and Save.


Q :Is there an alternate way to navigate the home page?
A :An alternate way of navigation would be to use the side menu, which can be activated by clicking on any link on the page.


Q :Can I change the term in enrollment dates to a different semester?
A :The system by default picks up the current term you are in. To change the term to a different semester, click “Change term” Select a term and click Continue. Change term button on the next page will bring you back to this page.


Q :How can I use View My Weekly Schedule?
A :You can choose either list view or calendar view. You can narrow your selection by putting a date, start time, and end time. Also you can use the display options at the bottom to filter your selection.


Q :How can I use Class Search/ Browse Catalog?
A :1. Select a term and search method. Click GO to continue. 2. Select at least 2 search criteria. Click Search to view your search results. Use Additional Search Criteria to narrow your search results. 3. When available, click View All Sections to see all sections of the course. Browse Catalog, it Lists all classes available for the current semester.


Q :What is Account Inquiry under Campus Finances and how can I use it?
A :This page shows you your billing summary. 1. Click on the “Activity” tab to see a transaction history based on dates. You can filter your view date and terms as well. 2.Click on the “Charges Due” to see a Running Total summary by due date of the charges and deposits that you owe. 3. Click on the “Payments” tab to see payments history.


Q :How can I use View Financial Aid page?
A :1. Click on the year that you wish to view. 2. Your selected financial years’ activity is displayed Then click on “ Loan details” to get more information about each award.


Q :How can I use the Charges due page?
A :This page shows you a Running Total summary by due date of the charges and deposits that you owe. 1. Click on the “Activity” tab to see a transaction history based on dates. You can filter your view date and terms as well. 2.Click on the “Summary” tab to see your billing summary. Click on the “Payments” tab to see payments history.


Q :How can I change the term in View My Grades?
A :Select a term and click “Continue”. On the next screen you will see a detailed view of your grades.


Q :How can I use View Unofficial transcript page?
A :Choose report type “Unofficial transcript” and press go to view your report. You will see your unofficial transcript with all of your information for your entire academic record, including transfer credits from other schools followed by your academic program history and your detailed transcript at LIU. Select a term and click “Continue”. On the next screen you will see a detailed view of your grades. This process may take a few minutes to complete. Please do not press any other buttons or links while processing is taking place.


Q :How can I use Application Status page?
A :This page shows the program and career that you have applied for with a list of items that need to be submitted to complete your admission process. This list will also show up as a To Do list on the portal home page to your right.


Q :What will be displayed after signing-on?
A :After sign-on your My LIU Student Center page will be displayed.


Q :What is on the Student Center page?
A :The Student Center contains pagelets for Academics, Finances, Personal Information Admissions, Holds, To Do List, Useful Links, Financial Aid Websites, and student Financials Websites. By clicking on the Search For Classes button, you can find classes or browse the University catalog by term.


Q :What does the Academic pagelet allow me to do?
A :The Academics pagelet allows you to view your Class Schedule in a number of formats, view grades, and perform other related actions, including viewing unofficial transcripts and transfer credit reports. In the future, you will be able to register on-line for classes, add/drop courses, and request official transcripts.


Q :What does the Finances pagelet allow me to do?
A :The Finances pagelet allows you to view your account activity and monitor the status of your Financial Aid. In the future, you will be able to pay your bill online.


Q :What does the Personal Information pagelet allow me to do?
A :The Personal Information pagelet allows you to view key personal data maintained by the University; it allows you to confirm that your address, name, phone number and email information is correct.


Q :What does the Admissions pagelet allow me to do?
A :The Admissions pagelet provides a status of any open applications at the University to date.


Q :What does the holds pagelet allow me to do?
A :The Holds pagelet allows you to view hold information placed on your account that will prevent you from accessing or engaging in select University activities.


Q :What is the To Do List pagelet?
A :The To Do List pagelet displays remaining documents and actions required to complete tasks for Admissions, Financial Aid, and other departments within the University.


Q :What is the Useful Links pagelet?
A :The Useful Links pagelet provides a link to the main University website, www.liu.edu.


Q :What is the Financial Aid Websites pagelet?
A :The Financial Aid Websites pagelet provides links to key external financial aid websites.


Q :What is the Student Financials Websites pagelet?
A :The Student Financials Websites pagelet provides links to key external student financials websites.


Q :What is “My LIU”?
A :“My LIU” is your gateway to all your student information here at Long Island University. The access consists currently of Admissions, Student Records, Student Financials, Financial Aid and personal information (such as Address, Emergency Contacts, etc.). This is a new system for providing access to your information. As you progress through this and subsequent semesters, you will see additional functionality added to the interface. In time, you will be able to view news from the campus and your program, as well as future customizations like adding your own links; i.e., Facebook, Google, or others.
Access to My LIU provides you with information regarding your status within the University, throughout your academic career. Access to this information is subject to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) Financial privacy. Access to the My LIU must be kept private and confidential. Never share your log in information.

Q :What can I do if I am having trouble understanding information on My LIU?
A :If you require assistance with understanding any of the information on My LIU, please call, email or visit your campus’ Center for Student Information (CSI). Q :How do I access My LIU?
A :You can access My LIU through the link available at the our university website: http://www.liu.edu. At the bottom of the web page, Select the My LIU link. You will be linked to the sign in page. To activate your account, click the bottom link. You only have to do this once.


Q :Do all users have to activate their accounts?
A :All users have to activate their accounts. You only need to do this the first time you long in! Once you provide this information, your account will be confirmed by displaying your username and an input box for you to create a new password. Your new password must be at least 6 characters, with at least 1 numeric character.


Q :Why do I have to create an alphanumeric password?
A :FERPA (the Family Education rights and Privacy Act) now requires student email accounts to include both letters and numbers for a stronger, less obvious password to protect your private information. Your My LIU password must be at least six characters with at least one numeric character, and is something you should not share with anyone else. Your username and password provide unlimited access to viewing your most personal information including your financial aid status and your grades, so be vigilant about keeping this private!
After logging into My LIU, and leaving your PC idle (a period of no activity on the Internet), the signed in session will automatically be timed out after 10 minutes of inactivity. Be mindful of using the Sign Out link particularly when accessing your account on a public Computer.

Q :What is My LIU email address?
A :The general format of a user account is firstname.lastname. The corresponding email would be firstname.lastname@my.liu.edu. As it is the case with popular names, a student's name may be the same as another student. Therefore, there is a system process to generate a username that automatically appends the name with a numeric value. For example: if there are multiple John Smiths in the system, the system will automatically append the name as follows, in a sequeential manner: John.Smith; John.Smith2; John.Smith3. Former email addresses will eventually be phased out. Therefore, be mindful to updated external accounts for you which you many have used your school email e.g., Facebook, banks, credit cards, etc.


Q :What else must I know to protect my privacy?

Q :What is the personal information pagelet and how can I use it?
A :The personal information pagelet in your My LIU Student Center illustrates your basic contact information. You may click on hyperlinks within the Contact Information window for detailed page views for permanent address, preferred address, home telephone, and your My LIU Email address. Click on the Names hyperlink to view your primary name. Click on the User Preference hyperlink to set default views. Use the drop down navigation bar for additional information on Addresses, Email Addresses, and Phone Numbers.


Q :How can I add, change or delete a name, address or phone number?
A :To add, change or delete a name, contact your campus registrar.


Q :What email address is used as preferred email?
A :Your my LIU Email address is automatically assigned as your preferred email.


Q :How do I return to Student Center?
A :To return to student center, click on the Student Center hyperlink on the left navigation menu.


Q :What is the Holds pagelet and where is it located?
A :This section of the My LIU Student Center shows you if there have been any Holds placed on your account that would prevent you from accessing documents, such as an Official Transcript, or engaging in University activities, such as registration. The Holds pagelet is located in the upper right hand on your My LIU Student Center page and lists current Holds placed on your account. Click on the Details hyperlink within the pagelet for additional information on each hold. The detailed view allows you to filter your Holds by Term and/or Department by selecting from the appropriate drop down navigation bar and clicking go. In addition, each column can be sorted by clicking on the column heading. For detailed information on a particular Holds item, click on the individual hyperlink.
To return to Account Inquiry, My Class Schedule or your My LIU Student Center, select from the drop down navigation bar and click the double arrow button.

Q :How can I find out more details about a Hold item?
A :Upon clicking, the details for the Hold item will be displayed, which includes a description of the Hold and next steps for resolving any issues that require resolution. Oftentimes, contact information will be provided. Clicking Return will take you back to the previous screen.


Q :What is To Do List and how do I use it?
A :This section of the My LIU Student Center allows you to review items that are pending with different offices at the University. The To Do List includes documents and actions required by the Admissions Office, the Office of Student Financial Services (Financial Assistance or Financial Aid), or other offices at your local campus. The To Do List pagelet is located below the Holds section on the right-hand of your My LIU Student Center page and shows any current to do items. Click on the Details hyperlink within the pagelet for additional information on each to do item.
The detailed view allows you to filter your to do list by Date and/or Function by selecting from the appropriate drop down navigation bar and clicking go. Each column can be sorted by clicking on the column heading. For detailed information on a particular To Do item, click on the individual hyperlink. To return to Account Inquiry, My Class Schedule or your My LIU Student Center, select from the drop down navigation bar and click the double arrow button.
